Curriculum Intent

At JCP, we implement a personalised curriculum enriched by the Charanga framework and tailored music lessons from specialist teachers that reflect and celebrate the diverse heritage of our community. This curriculum is designed to progressively cultivate skills, knowledge, and understanding through various activities such as listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a broad spectrum of styles, traditions, historical periods, and musical genres. Our goal is to instil a lifelong passion for music and highlight the significant contributions that music brings to life. We believe every child deserves the chance to unlock their musical potential, and we strive to nurture and promote musical growth throughout the school, positively influencing the wider community.

Learning to play an instrument

Children from year 1 to year 6 will be taught the following musical instruments as part of their music curriculum:

Ukulele, Violin and Clarinet.

These lessons are delivered by specialist Music teachers from the Coventry Music Hub.

There are also opportunities for the children to take part in after-school music clubs, which range from learning to play an instrument, such as violin and drums, and take part in a rock band or choir.
