Mrs Littler presented to governors on her role in developing the teaching assistants across the school.
We are really fortunate at Joseph Cash as we have so many teaching assistants across the school who support our children on a daily basis. At the beginning of the year, Mrs Littler met all support staff across the school to share their journey so far and further development opportunities. Teaching assistants have met weekly for a bespoke development package led by different leaders across the school. They have also had the opportunity to share good practice across the school and visit other teaching assistants and classes.
We are currently in the process on achieving 'The Best Practice with Teaching Assistants Award'
The BPTAA supports schools to
★ Make straightforward changes that enable teaching assistants to work more effectively, in ways that can have a potentially transformative effect on pupil outcomes
★ Demonstrate external validation of schools’ self-evaluation and development of the preparation, deployment and practice of its teaching assistants
★ Improve pupil achievement, behaviour and social and emotional well-being
★ Uphold the principles of the Send Code of Practice 2015
★ Use pupil premium funding effectively.
There are five stages in the BPTAA process and there is a strong thread of evaluation throughout
★ School self-evaluation – this has been completed alongside Helen and Sara
★ Preparation of BPTAA action plan – once a small working party has been created
★ Implementation of actions and portfolio building
★ Interim assessment of progress
★ Verification leading to achievement of the award.
The Objectives of the best practice with teaching assistants award are show below
We will evaluate all of our achievements and encourages us to think about our next steps.
It is expected that we will complete the process during Spring/Summer 21
